Are you afraid to share the Gospel?

Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ can feel daunting. You may have fears based on thoughts like these:

• What do I say?
• How do I talk to a stranger?
• What if they ask me a question I can’t answer?
• I feel like a hypocrite.
• It’s not my spiritual gift.
• I’m not outgoing.
• I don’t know the Bible well enough.
• I share the Gospel through my actions not my words.
• etc. etc. etc.

What if I told you there’s a great opportunity to share the Gospel with people online? These are people who have responded to a social media ad offering them peace with God.

This opportunity is provided through the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. It is a volunteer role known as a “Social Media Coach”. Check it out here: LINK

I have been a Social Media Coach for over a month now and I have really enjoyed it. The time requirement is at least 2 hours per month.

We basically get “warm leads” as the people coming to speak with us through Facebook Ads like these: LINK

So they already are interested in having a spiritual conversation.  You can talk to people when it is convenient for you. I talk to people from 9pm-12midnight.

The general flow of these conversations goes something like this:

• Introduce myself – “Hi and welcome. I’m Robert with peacewithgod.net. I’m here to assist you with questions about finding hope through a relationship with Jesus Christ.”
• Question – “What do you need prayer for?” OR “How can I assist you on your spiritual journey to God?”
• Prayer requests – In my brief experience as a Social Media Coach, people ask for prayer and Biblical guidance in these 6 areas of their lives:
  • Relationship & Family issues
  • Financial concerns
  • Health concerns
  • Addictions
  • Emotional & Mental health
  • Spiritual Questions
• Jesus Follower? I’ll pray a short prayer addressing their felt need, I redirect them to their real need by asking – “Do you follow Jesus?” OR “Would you like to learn more about Jesus?”.
• Share the Gospel – If they say YES then I share the Gospel with them – “There’s Good News and Bad News. The Bad News is we are sinners separated from God. The Good News is that Jesus died for our sins because HE LOVES YOU SO MUCH! We respond by repenting from our sins and receiving the free gift of his salvation! Would you like to receive this free gift now?”
• Respond to the Gospel – Then if they say YES I share a short prayer with them – “Simply cry out to Jesus through prayer. It could be as simple as, ‘Dear Jesus. I am a sinner. I can’t save myself. I know you died on the cross for my sins. Please forgive my sins. I accept you as my Lord and Savior. Help me to follow you all the days of my life. In Jesus name, Amen.'”
• Share resources – Whether they respond to the Gospel or not, I share some resources with them:

Here’s some of my observations based on my experience with interactions with 100 people:

• 80 people did not respond to my initial reply. Note: that’s okay, not everyone is ready to talk.
• Of the 20 that did respond, 15 of those people just wanted me to pray for them or answer a Bible question. Many already followed Jesus.
• 5 people wanted to hear the Gospel.
• 3 of those 5 that heard the Gospel, prayed to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior!

I would highly recommend this ministry for those who want to get started in sharing the Gospel. The uncomfortable aspect of sharing the Gospel with people face to face is removed; this makes it easy to get started. No matter what time you log on there are always people wanting to know more about how to have peace with God.
