Jesus is God is Love

One of the main differences between Christianity and other religions or belief systems, is our belief that Jesus is God – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1,14)

The deity of Jesus was even debated in early church history and at the Council of Nicea in 325 AD, the leaders of the Christian church corrected the heresy by some in the church that taught that Jesus was less than God.

This belief that Jesus is God was stated in the Nicene Creed as follows:

“I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
 the Only Begotten Son of God,
 born of the Father before all ages.
 God from God, Light from Light,
 true God from true God,
 begotten, not made,
being of one substance with the Father;
by whom all things were made; ” (Nicene Creed)

There are many Scriptures in the Bible that back up the fact that Jesus is God. This is confirmed by many New Testament verses including – John 1:1, John 1:14, John 8:58, John 10:30, John 20:28, Romans 1:4, Philippians 2:6, Colossians 2:9, Titus 2:13, Hebrews 1:3, Hebrews 1:8, Revelation 1:8 and by many Old Testament verses including – Isaiah 9:6, Micah 5:2, Psalm 45:6-7, Psalm 110:1, Isaiah 7:14, Zechariah 12:10, Daniel 7:13-14, Isaiah 40:3, Malachi 3:1, Genesis 1:26.

This is how you can distinguish if someone is talking to you about Jesus in the Bible or another “Jesus” that is less than who he really is – God.

And remember what Scripture says, that in response to God’s great love for us, by sending his only Son Jesus to die on the cross, to pay the penalty for our sins, we love others with the love of God:

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (1 John 4:7-8)
