Solar Eclipse

“And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.” (Rev. 22:5)

We look forward to the day when Christ will be the light shining in our new world. A world free from sin and death.

The solar eclipse reminds us that this world is passing away. Just as the sun’s light is blocked by the moon passing between the sun and the earth, we are reminded about how temporary this life is.

“Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:18-20)

We handed out solar eclipse glasses to protect people’s eyes from the damage of looking directly at a solar eclipse.

We also reminded them of these two passages:

“The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, And night to night reveals knowledge.” (Psalm 19:1-2)

“There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, … But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” (Luke 21:25, 28)
