The Appointed Time

Christ came at an appointed time to save mankind from sin. Scripture says in Galatians 4:4-6, “But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”

God also appoints times for events to take place in history and in the future.

God even has an appointed time for us to respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Today was one such day. My 8-year old nephew received Jesus as Savior today – December 31st, 2024 at 7:25 pm Central Time.

We were watching my nephew while his mom and dad were going out to celebrate their wedding anniversary. My wife and I just so happened to be in town (Dallas, TX) on a return trip from New Zealand.

My nephew and I played a game called “The Bible Times Quiz Challenge Card game” that I just so happened to purchase at Mardel’s Bible bookstore here in Dallas today.

That game stirred up some good conversations about Bible stories.

Next I asked him if he liked comic books. He said ”Yes”, so I showed him this website: https://superbible.org

I just so happened to learn about this website from our recent trip to New Zealand where I worked with some evangelists sharing the Gospel with New Zealanders and they told me about it.

We first looked at the comic book called “The Story” and then we watched the 16-minute video of the Bible on the website. At the end of the video it explained a 5-step method to repent from sin and follow Jesus (see below). I asked my nephew if he had done that before. He said “No”. Then I shared the verse, Romans 10:9 “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;” and asked him if he would like to receive Jesus as Savior and he said “Yes”.

So, right then in there based on a series of events that could only be coordinated by God from half way around the world and timed perfectly, my nephew prayed to receive Jesus as Savior and to follow Jesus all of the days of his life! He even asked when he could get baptized!

We talked with his Dad after they got home about how he made the decision to follow Jesus, and he was excited and looked forward to when he could baptize his son!

God is good! He has an appointed time for everything under the sun – “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven” (Ecclesiastes 3:1) and today my nephew responded to the appointment God had set for him!

Perhaps today is your appointed time — how will you respond to the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

If you have received Christ as Savior, perhaps God is setting up some appointments for you to help lead others to Christ. “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us.” (2 Corinthians 5:20)
